Pierre Marc was born on 1 July 1924. He worked as a butcher when he was arrested in April 1944 as a supporter of the Resistance. He arrived in Buchenwald via the transit camp in Compiègne on 12 May 1944. On 6 June 1944, he was assigned to the third SS construction brigade, whose prisoners had to perform hard forced labour building the Helmetal railway in the southern Harz region. After a few weeks, he was transferred to the Dora camp, which became the independent Mittelbau concentration camp in October 1944.
When the Mittelbau camps were evacuated in April 1945, Pierre Marc was sent to Ravensbrück concentration camp. He was liberated by Red Army soldiers in early May 1945. He returned to France and lived in Saint-Claude until his death.
Our thoughts and sympathy are with his family and friends these days.
